A sign of true comprehension is shown in a student’s ability to both “expand” the text of the Chumash to include details that are only alluded to in the text, and to “contract” the storyline even further by summarizing the passage or isolating the main ideas. Through creating a newspaper report about what they are learning, students will have the opportunity to hone in on the “headlines,” and elaborate in captions and articles. This activity contains 3 versions for primary, middle and upper grades, each with a guide, rubric, templates and samples to make it classroom ready!
